Artichokes have some of the longest storing capacities of any garlic, big bulbs with many cloves, and a milder flavor. They do not typically develop an umbel or even a scape and are thus called "softneck" garlic. However, occasionally they will produce so-called "neck bulbils" which are a cluster of bulbils that grows anywhere up along the pseudo stem in between the leaves.
